RealConnect’s public peering network has taken off. RealConnect announced today that they have established private interconnections with 11 premier ISP’s, expanding their peering network.
In creating these peering arrangements, the ISP’s create a direct link with each other and agree to forward each other’s packets directly across this link instead of using the standard Internet backbone. This peering arrangement allows packets of information to travel directly between the two ISP’s. In general, this results in faster access since there are fewer hops and larger bandwidth available between the two.
The companies involved in RealConnect’s public peering group include: Earthlink, Williams Communications, Equinix Corporation, Time Warner Telecom, ICG Communications, RCN, HurricaneElectric, Shaw Cable System, Web Use Net, Global Innovations and Atlantech.
